“Grandma's Magical Tea is a zine including text and illustrations. The story is based on a true story of a Japanese children's literature author, Aiko Umeno, and her late grandma. As an ordinary woman in the past, her late grandma supported her family, and experienced illness, war, and toughness in her life. I’ve turned these memories into magical moments, which are full of imaginative illustrations. I’d like to respond to the sincere emotions flowing in her personal and intimate story.”
Motivazione
“I was touched by Aiko’s poetic and sentimental words, which made me rethink the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren today. I imagine her grandma has magic and turns to be the best partner with her beloved granddaughter again, which is a valuable interaction with our old generation and we likely ignore today.”
